Research carried out by the Distributed and Interactive Systems (DIS) group from Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) has resulted in contributions to this year’s ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI 2023). CHI is the flagship conference of ACM SIGCHI, the premier international society for professionals, academics and students who are interested in technology and human-computer interaction. Below we highlight the work we will present (2 Late-breaking Works, 1 Special-Interest Group (SIG), and 1 workshop position paper), and make an announcement regarding CHI Nederland (CHI NL).

We maintain our position within CHI NL, where CWI research scientist Abdallah El Ali is on the executive board since CHI NL was reinstated in 2020. CHI NL is an organization that aims at connecting, supporting, and representing the Human-Computer Interaction community in the Netherlands. CHI NL organized last year a Dutch Post-CHI 2022 event at CWI, and an industry-focused event Experience and Beyond 2022, and will be organizing a large-scale social event in Hamburg as part of the CHI conference and Post-CHI 2023 in June.

For the first time, the National conference on ICT (ICT.Open 2023) includes a track on HCI (CHI NL – Human Factors in Computing Systems), which received incredible interest (with around 60 submissions). The track, on April 20th, has 12 oral presentations, 16 posters, and 4 demos. Moreover, there will be a special CHI NL community meeting on the 19th in Utrecht, open to everyone (registration: https://forms.gle/nXEdwjmmLDywkeVs7). The track is co-chaired by Alessandro Bozzon (TU Delft) and Pablo Cesar (CWI), and co-organized by Abdallah El Ali (CWI), Katja Rogers (UvA), Minha Lee (TU Eindhoven), and Ujwal Gadiraju (TU Delft).
